Thanks to the9thdude , he was actually able to open up his brand new HP Envy laptop. He then proceeded remedy the main problem with this machine. The inclusion of a NVME M.2 drive should vastly improve the responsiveness that this machine sorely lacked! You can  also change the 2.5″ drive but it doesn’t seem like the amount of RAM can be changed after purchase, bummer.

M.2 sizes for reference!

Also of note is the battery, 55.8Whr is quite large and a welcome change for an APU based laptop.

I had put the same NVME drive in the machine and while the speeds were good USERBENCHMARK was giving some oddly middling numbers for it. I installed the Samsung NVME Express driver and now getting full NVME speed goodness.
